Following on from the recent announcement that the tall ship Johanna Lucretia will be moored at Teignmouth for the whole of the 2020 weekend and that 11 paid berths are available on her journey from Plymouth to Teignmouth the preceding week, we can now reveal the exact details of what is on offer. The 11 people will join the boat at 2pm on Monday 21st September and set sail for Teignmouth, arriving there on Friday 25th September and leaving the boat at 4pm. Potential stops along the way include Dartmouth, Salcombe, Hope Cove and Brixham, but the final schedule will be subject to weather. No previous sailing experience is required, as the crew of 4 will demonstrate what to do. However, it is an active holiday, so you will be involved in raising the sails and help sailing the boat, therefore the places are restricted to able bodied individuals. There are toilets, a galley and comfortable seating down below. The berths will be in shared
We are delighted to be able to announce that, with the kind co-operation of the The Island Trust, the tall ship Johanna Lucretia will be moored at Teignmouth for the whole of the 2020 weekend – this development is just one of the reasons why the Teign Shanty festival is now known as the Teign Shanty and Maritime Festival! Please also see https://www.theislandtrust.org.uk/boats/johanna-lucretia/ Over the whole weekend the public will be able to come aboard to fully appreciate the beauty of this vessel. Even more exciting is the fact that there will be 11 paid berths available on her journey from Plymouth to Teignmouth the preceding week. Watch this space for more details as these will be available on a “first come, first served” basis!
Further to the previous post, four giant cheques of £500 each have now been presented to our nominated charities at The Alice Cross Centre. Representatives from all the charities (RNLI, Rowcroft Hospice, Teign Heritage and Alice Cross) were there to receive them and expressed their delight in being recipients for the second year running.
Message from the festival committee We are delighted to announce that, despite some challenging weather conditions, the 2019 festival was an even bigger success than last year. We are proud to be in a position to match our 2018 charitable donation of £2,000 to be shared equally between our four nominated charities: RNLI, Rowcroft Hospice, Teign Heritage and Alice Cross. Each charity will be presented with a cheque for £500 in the coming weeks. What an absolutely brilliant weekend! We are so grateful to everyone involved and to all the visitors who braved the weather. Together you helped ensure the continued success of this event come rain or shine. Sincere thanks goes out to the performers who filled our towns with salty tunes for locals and visitors to enjoy and of course to our new maritime presenters who demonstrated great skills of old, told stories of the sea and provided singing workshops, a real treat and the cause of much buzz about town. Behind the scenes, the committee members, the Back Beach Boyz, their partners and the many, many volunteers who readily stepped forward to help ensure every base was covered, from hospitality and sound support through to collecting donations, selling programmes and merchandise. Together you ensured a warm welcome and have made the Teign Shanty Festival 2019 the success it clearly is. THANK YOU! Our thanks to the Mayor and Mayoress of Teignmouth who went out of their
