The 2021 Teign Maritime & Shanty Festival was an enormous success. Teignmouth and Shaldon were bustling with visitors, which brought much needed business into the area and raised record funds for our nominated charities.
Feedback from performers and presenters was tremendous, with a huge number keen to be included in the next festival and many hoping our festival will not get too big, so as to maintain the personal aspect that endears it to so many. The committee share this view and strive to deliver the very highest quality in all respects. Achieving this requires a huge effort from us and our vast array of supporters – without whom we simply could not stage such an event.
As you know, we are ambitious and are now set on making the next festival even better than the last. Our committee are buzzing with some cracking ideas as to how this will work, including headline acts, even more variety, and of course a tall ship or two, so watch this space!
Therefore, to make sure that we have the time and resources required to undertake the huge amount of logistical planning involved and to recruit the additional helpers that are required to make this a success, we have taken a longer term view and made the decision that the Teign Maritime & Shanty Festival will become a bi-annual event and so our next festival will now be in 2023. The planned festival in 2022 will now not take place.
Our 2023 festival will be a three-day event, taking place over the weekend of September 8th, 9th and 10th 2023 and the Teign Estuary will be the place to be.
Our change in approach has been announced early so as to allow all our supporters and visitors to make / amend plans accordingly and move accommodation bookings as required.
We sincerely look forward to welcoming you once again in 2023. We have already begun the planning and recruitment to make our event even more special. Wish us luck and make sure to keep a close eye on our website and social media for continuing updates.
