Ahoy there!
The stars are lining up and the first weekend in September looks set to be a belter! Don’t forget your sunscreen!
Prior visitors will know we run a tight ship at the Teign Maritime & Shanty Festival and can navigate a rough sea. Rest assured your safe enjoyment has been our number one priority from the start. We have embraced the need to adjust and learn to live with the virus and have made the necessary changes to enable this.
Our established venues are spread out on either side of the Teign estuary in the tourist towns of Teignmouth and Shaldon.
For 2021, most singing takes place at ‘outside’ venues. The few venues where singing takes place ‘inside’ are large e.g. churches, have restricted capacity, as do maritime venues, and we will be encouraging you to wear a face mask. If you forget your mask, free ones will be available.
Our festival is open, free to attend and free to leave and represents more of a busy tourist destination than an iconic ‘festival’. We have designed this year’s offer around ease of movement, to allow for distancing and to reduce overcrowding. Hand sanitisation is also available at every venue.
All venues, inside and out, will have volunteer marshals who are well briefed. Please respect the word of our marshals as they are acting in your best interest.
Last but not least, please do the right thing, take a lateral flow test before setting off – they are free from pharmacies. If you test positive, please do not attend our event. Instead, follow the government’s guidance and arrange a PCR test.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to yet another successful event. As a reminder, if you are here on the afternoon of Friday 3rd September, join our estuary community as we put on a traditional welcome for the Johanna Lucretia, a two masted schooner as she arrives from Plymouth.
Be safe.
